It’s about getting the exact right amount of energy onto your product to set the ink without accidentally baking your substrate into a crisp. The Heat Struggle Here’s the thing about power: more wattage usually means you can run your conveyor faster. That sounds great until your parts start warping. If you crank up the power but forget about your cooling fans or water jackets, you’ll run into “skinning.” That’s the nightmare scenario where the top looks dry, but the bottom is still a gooey mess. We spend a lot of time tweaking the power to make sure it actually fits your ink’s thickness and how fast your line is moving. Picking the Right Light You’ve got two main choices: mercury-vapor or LED. It really just depends on what’s inside your ink. Mercury lamps are the heavy hitters. They have a broad spectrum that digs deep into thick coatings. LEDs, on the other hand, are much more targeted. They’re a lifesaver for those finicky, heat-sensitive plastics that would otherwise melt into a puddle. We always check how deep you need the cure to go before we pick the hardware. The Real-World Stuff Just dropping a new lamp into an old slot rarely works perfectly. We look at the reflectors and the actual gap between the lamp and your product. If that reflector is even slightly off, you’re throwing away 30% of your energy and creating “hot spots” that ruin your finish. Plus, factory floors are dusty and brutal.
