
Building UV Lamps That Actually Last (and Don’t Trash the Planet)
Let’s be honest: standard mercury-vapor lamps aren’t for everyone. Sometimes they just don’t hit the right wavelength for what you’re trying to cure or sterilize. That’s where our custom gallium iodide (GaI) lamps come in. We build these for the tough jobs, but we do it without the toxic mess. Getting the light just right It all comes down to how we excite those gallium atoms. We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all. We look at your footprint and how much punch (irradiance) you actually need, then we build the tube to match. Now, here’s a heads-up: if you go for high wattage to speed up your line, you’ve got to watch your heat. If your cooling manifolds can’t keep up, the quartz envelope takes a beating. It’s a quick way to burn out a perfectly good lamp. Keep it cool, and it’ll keep running. Better materials, less waste Nobody likes it when their UV output drops because the glass gets cloudy. We call that solarization, and it’s a pain. To stop it, we use high-purity synthetic quartz. It stays clear. It stays strong. And about that “zero-pollution” goal? We just stopped using the heavy metals and toxic fillers that the old-school lamps relied on. We also spent a lot of time tweaking the electrode chemistry. Why? Because the longer a lamp lasts, the less time you spend swapping them out and the fewer hazardous parts end up in your scrap bin. It’s just simpler. Making it work with your gear You don’t need to rip out your entire setup. These are designed to drop right into your existing arrays. We’ll customize the pins and end-caps so they fit your current ballasts perfectly. But there is one thing you need to check. GaI lamps need a bit more “kick” to start—a higher strike voltage—than the standard stuff. If your power supply is too weak, the lamp won’t arc. If it’s too aggressive, you’ll fry the electrodes.
